Tuscan Archipelago and especially the Island of Elba offer a spectacular environment to those who are keen on sea and sailing and also to those who are approaching for the first time to this worlds. A boat is perfect to search exclusive inlets sailing along the coasts. People who don’t have their own boat have the possibility to rent different kind of boats, with or without skipper. Specialized excursions offices propose guided tours and sailing courses. Rubber boats, motor boats, water scooters and windsurfs can be rent at Bagni Lacona, just a hundred metres far from the hotel. Snorkeling is particularly suitable for those who would like to admire the marine beauties and enjoy the quite contact with the seawater without diving. At Lacona it’s possible to practise this sport, with the assistance of Blu Immersion Diving Centre. Among the most interesting places for this kind of activity are indicated Le Gemini and Capo di Stella, right the part of the sea to the south of the Island of Elba, where Lacona is situated. Life in the seawaters of Tuscan Archipelago is diverse and offers wonderful moments also to the ones who don’t want to venture into deep ocean floors. To run into small shoals even few meters from the seashore is not uncommon…
Mountain Bike
Hotel Lacona places mountain bikes at guests’ disposal. The use of the bikes is free of charge and is allowed from 8am until the twilight. Elba Island is a perfect location thanks to its routes, its climate, its countless slopes and its breathtaking landscape. Many trekking routes on the island can be covered also by bicycle. There is a large number of solutions for excursions with different difficulty levels routes. Also for this kind of tours Hotel Lacona chose Il Viottolo, which organizes many mountain bikes excursions and mapped out some exclusive routes for Hotel Lacona.
Trekking
The Island of Elba is characterized by a path network, which is intensely frequented by the excursionists all year round. Also few minutes from Lacona it’s easy to find a path encircled by the luxuriant and uncontaminated nature. You can find traces of millenary history which tell us how was life on the island hundreds years ago. The silence you can enjoy during these excursions will fascinate you. The view from the mountain will let you discover an exclusive and uncontaminated island. We have chosen for you routes which start just few meters from the park of Hotel Lacona and other tours through the island organized by Il Viottolo, which can be booked at the reception desk. Elba Golf Club Acquabona
Elba Golf Club Acquabona winds along the hills with stunning view to the bay of Portoferraio. The Golf Club is located on the road which links up Portoferraio and Portoazzurro, near the fork to Lacona. The course is surrounded by pines, holm-oaks and eucalyptus. It’s a nine-hole course which offers some particularities, such as hole number 2 and hole number 9. The Golf Club is about 4 kilometres far from Hotel Lacona and can be easily reached in about 5 minutes by car , even during the season when the island is very crowded. The Golf Club offers all the facilities of the Club House with secretary’s office, bar, swimming pool and a well-stocked shop.

Marathon
The Elba Marathon Tour takes place every year, during the last week of April or the first week of May. It’s a four laps marathon close to nature, which goes through the paths of Lacona Gulf. The competition is organized by Hotel Lacona with the co-operation of Uisp, L’Isolotto sport club, Podismo e Atletica magazine and Runners.it internet site. Chess
Hotel Lacona has been organizing the International Chess Festival of Elba Island for more than 25 years. This tournament takes place on the first two weeks of May, has an important tradition and is attended by International Masters who come from all over the world. The festival lasts eight days and is divided into three tournaments: A Open, B Open and the Promotion Tournament, which is reserved to beginners who would like to enjoy the island combining holidays with the passion for chess.
Climbing
Both the coast and the hinterland of Elba Island offer a quantity of rocky faces which are suitable for climbing lovers. Some excellent ones are near Capoliveri, in the area of Calamita, the most difficult ones are the cliffs of Ginepro beach, of Madonna del Monte, of Monte San Bartolomeo or Fetovaia. There are tourist offices which can provide assistance and equipment to climbing lovers and also to the ones who want to approach to this kind of sport for the first time.
Basketball
Le Vie del Parco Basket Tournament takes place every year on Elba Island at the end of April and is organized by Uisp Tuscany, in co-operation with the Tourism Agency and Hotel Lacona. It’s a four-way tournament for seniores teams participating to national Uisp championships. All the teams have the possibility to participate contacting the Uisp Basketball Association Tuscany regional offices. BNL Roma and Basket Brusuglio are among the most regular participants to this tournament.
